Quarter finals Champions League 2018

The second day of the Quarter finals Champions League 2018 was the day of the English clash in the biggest European tournament. Liverpool played at Anfield against Manchester City. The other match was the one between Barcelona and AS Roma at Camp Nou. In this post I give my view on both matches.

Quarter Finals Champions League 2018

Liverpool versus Manchester City

This is the match England was waiting for. Two Premier League giants in a mutual battle for a semi-final ticket. Anfield was fired up for this match and Liverpool showed exactly what their fans wanted from them. Within 12 minutes Mohamed Salah scored the first goal of this match. Eight minutes later it was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who doubled the score. Sadio Mane was responsible for the 3-0 and a big score in Liverpool’s favour. Man City tried to score an important away goal, but they were unlucky with the linesman, who wrongly accused Sane for being offside at the possible 3-1. The final score in this match is 3-0, which will make it almost impossible for Man City to reach the next round.

Barcelona versus AS Roma

It’s obvious Barcelona is the big favourite in this battle. The Spanish giants have a nine point lead in La Liga and are one of the favourites to win the Champions League this season. Barca started this game good, but couldn’t force a breakthrough early in the match. They needed a little bit of help by AS Roma to get things going. Own goals by De Rossi(38th minute) and Manolas(55th minute) led to a 2-0 lead for Barca. Gerard Pique finished this tie by scoring the 3-0 in the 59th minute. Edin Dzeko scored one back for AS Roma in the 80th minute, but seven minutes later Luis Suarez scored Barca’s fourth goal. With this score the tie between these two is over for me. Barca will never give this lead away in Rome.

As a football fan who loves to place some bets, the results were in my favour. I had all four winners correct while betting, but I’m still not quite fond with the results. I’d preferred Juventus to win and Liverpool and Man City to be closer to each other. The replays are pretty much a formality thanks to this results and that’s disappointing for me.
