International break

Let’s talk about the International Break

The Premier League returns tomorrow, after almost two weeks of international football. I haven’t seen a lot of matches during this international break, but I noticed some things I want to share with you. There are two subjects I want to talk about in this post: Isco and Matthijs de Ligt.

My international break highlights

During this international break I noticed two players who really made a good impression. I will briefly discuss both players in this post.

The Spanish attacking midfielder was the absolute star of Spain in the destruction of Argentina. Spain caused a big surprise by defeating Argentina with 6-1. Isco scored half of the goals for the Spanish side. The 25 year old isn’t a regular in Zinedine Zidane’s first eleven at Real Madrid. I really rate this guy and I think he will be in the starting eleven for almost every other team in the world. It’s about time he starts playing week in week out and I really hope he will move to the Premier League in the summer.

Matthijs de Ligt

Another player who made a big impression during the international break. The 18 year old Ajax defender had two strong performances against England and Portugal. Even Cristiano Ronaldo got clearly frustrated by the young Dutch talent. If you follow my Twitter you will know how high I rate this guy. I believe De Ligt has the potential to become one of the best defenders in the world. The entire top of Europe is following him and I hope he will stay at Ajax at least one more year, but I think the chance of this happening is very limited. Barcelona is after him for awhile and it will surprise me if they don’t try to get him to Catalonia in the summer.

Which players made the best impression on you during this international break? Let me know in the comments.
