Carabao Cup update

Carabao Cup update: Quarter finals

This week was all about the Carabao Cup. Four quarter finals where scheduled just before the busy Christmas period. The managers used this cup matches to play a lot of other players. The important players got the time to rest with their busy schedule in their mind. In this Carabao Cup update I look back on the recently played quarter finals.

Quarter finals Carabao Cup update

Arsenal versus West Ham United

Arsene Wenger changed his entire line-up for this match against West Ham. David Moyes made some changes, because things are going well for them. This match was one of the most boring matches I’ve watched lately. The first almost passed without any attempts on goal. At the end of the first half, Danny Welbeck scrambled the ball in Joe Hart’s goal. This goal appeared to be the only goal of this match, which gives Arsenal a tickets for the semi-finals.

Leicester City versus Manchester City

Pep is another manager who changed his line-up. Several regular first team players stayed in Manchester. Two of the players who made some minutes in the past few matches opened the scoring in this match. Bernardo Silva scored out of an assist by Gundogan. Man City was heading towards the semi-finals until the referee changed everything in the last minute of the match. A dive by Gray was rewarded with a penalty, which was netted by Vardy. Both teams failed to score in extra time, so penalties where necessary to decide the match. Leicester’s big guns Vardy and Mahrez missed their penalties and Man City is through to the semi-finals.

Chelsea versus Bournemouth

Wednesday night’s matches where most more exciting than those on Tuesday. Chelsea took the lead against Bournemouth in the 13th minute by a Willian goal. Things were looking good for the Blues, despite some pressure from the Cherries. Dan Gosling scored the equalizer in the 90th minute and looked to have booked extra time. The celebrations by Bournemouth where a bit too much, when Chelsea scored with a minute after the equalizer. The 2-1 was enough for Chelsea to continue to the semi-finals.

Bristol City versus Manchester United

Jose Mourinho started this match with regular first team players like Rojo, Lindelof, Martial, Rashford and Ibrahimovic. They couldn’t prevent Bristol City from scoring the first goal of the match. It was Bryan who scored the 1-0 in the 51st minute of the match. A set piece by Zlatan Ibrahimovic led to the equalizer. The match was heading towards extra time, but then there was Korey Smith. The English player scored the winning goal for Bristol City in the 93rd minute of the match. Bristol City knocked out Man United and continues to the semi-finals.
