The MOTW Chelsea versus Manchester City was the last match on Saturday. This is one of the matches people were looking forward to for a long time. The first big test in this Premier League season for Manchester City. In this post I will give my opinion on this interesting battle between two title contenders.
MOTW Chelsea versus Manchester City line-ups
Thibaut Courtois, Gary Cahill, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Marcos Alonso, Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata.
Ederson, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi, Fabian Delph, Kevin de Bruyne, Fernandinho, David Silva, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus.
Pep Guardiola missed his top striker Sergio Aguero in the first big test of this season. Despite this big miss, they still dominated the game from the start. This battle is an clear match between two different styles. Man City with the attractive offensive style of play against the defending Chelsea. This became very clear when Morata got injured and Conte replaced his striker for an attacking midfield player. Despite Man City’s dominance, the first half stayed goalless.
Pep was satisfied with what he has seen and kept his team the same at the start of the second half. It took them awhile, but it was Belgium star Kevin de Bruyne who scored a brilliant goal for the Citizens. His 67th minute goal was the deciding factor in this match. Manchester City won this match with 0-1. The entire game was very impressive by Manchester City. It’s really starting to look like a Pep Guardiola team. Now it’s interesting to see if they can continue on this for the rest of the season.
By this victory they declared themselves to big one of the biggest Premier League title contenders at this moment in time. Both Manchester teams are currently leading the Premier League with 19 points.
