2017 FA Cup final: Arsenal versus Chelsea

It’s time to look back at the 2017 FA Cup final Arsenal versus Chelsea. These two teams had a completely different season. Chelsea was by far the best team in the Premier League and completely dominated this season. Arsenal finished for the first time since 1996 out of the top four. This means the Gunners aren’t qualified for the 2017-2018 Champions League. This FA Cup final was their last chance to give this season some glance.

2017 FA Cup final line-ups

David Ospina, Per Mertesacker, Nacho Monreal, Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin, Aaron Ramsay, Granit Xhaka, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck.

Thibaut Courtois, Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Gary Cahill, Victor Moses, N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic, Marcos Alonso, Eden Hazard, Pedro, Diego Costa.

Against all expectations it was Arsenal who dominated this final from the start. The Gunners started better and needed only four minutes to score the first goal. Arsenal’s best player Alexis Sanchez scored the 1-0 for Arsenal. I thought this goal would wake Chelsea up, but it really didn’t. Arsenal kept dominating the match and Chelsea was never really into the match. The 1-0 remained on the scoreboard for the rest of the first half.

Victor Moses tried to win a penalty for his team, but referee Taylor decided to sent him off with a 2nd yellow card for diving. Eight minutes after the red card, it was Diego Costa with the equaliser. Arsene Wenger decided to bring Giroud on for Welbeck and this was a golden decision. The Frenchman crossed the ball in the box only second after Costa’s equaliser and Ramsay netted the ball. Arsenal took the lead for the second time in this match. Chelsea had some chances but Ospina prevented them from scoring. Arsenal’s amazing final performance led to the 13th FA Cup trophy. Congrats to all Arsenal fans for winning the 2017 FA Cup final!
