My Premier League team of the year 2016-2017

FA Cup semi-final Chelsea versus Tottenham Hotspur

The FA Cup semi-final Chelsea versus Tottenham Hotspur was the most interesting one in advance. The numbers one and two of the Premier League in a battle for a final ticket. In this post I give my opinion on yesterday’s match at Wembley.

FA Cup semi-final Chelsea versus Tottenham Hotspur line-ups

Chelsea
Thibaut Courtois. Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Nathan Ake, Victor Moses, N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic, Marcos Alonso, Pedro, Willian and Michy Batshuayi.

Tottenham Hotspur
Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Kieran Trippier, Dele Alli, Victor Wanyama, Moussa Dembele, Christian Eriksen, Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane.

I am very surprised by Chelsea’s line-up. It’s a semi-final in the biggest English cup tournament and Conte leaves players like Hazard and Costa on the bench. This is a complete joke when you ask me. Chelsea hasn’t played any European matches this season, so there is no Chelsea player who is tired. A coach should respect this tournament and the fans and start with his best eleven.

Second half

Despite this contempt of the tournament, it was Chelsea who took the lead in this match. Within five minutes it was Willian who scored from a free-kick. The Spurs had a tough start but starting to get the hang of it after the first 15 minutes. Harry Kane scored with a beautiful header in the 18th minute. Spurs really dominated from this goal, until Son made a bad mistake in his own penalty box. A fault on Moses resulted in a Chelsea penalty. Once again it was Willian who scored for Chelsea.

Another setback for the Spurs, but they managed to equalise early in the second half. A brilliant assist by Eriksen was netted by Dele Alli. Tottenham Hotspur was the better team and Chelsea just waited for another chance. This chance came when Hazard and Costa entered the pitch. A well executed counter attack was finished by Eden Hazard in the 75th. Five minutes later it was Matic who scored a beautiful goal. Chelsea took a 4-2 lead and controlled possession from this moment. So the Blues are the first team who qualified for this years FA Cup final.
