We’re heading towards another very interesting Premier League weekend, but before I’m going to discuss this with you it’s time to look back at the latest WC 2018 qualification results. The focus of this World Cup 2018 qualification update part one will be on the European qualification. Find out which teams made a step towards the tournament in Russia.
World Cup 2018 qualification update part one
France in the big favourite in this group and they won an away match in Luxembourg with 3-1. They are now 3 points ahead of Sweden, who they will face in their next match. Holland lost with 2-0 in Bulgaria and is likely to miss out on this tournament.
Switzerland is one of few teams which haven’t lost a single point during this qualification. After a 1-0 victory they stay on top of the group with 15 points out of 5 matches. Closely followed by Portugal with 12 out 5. Both teams will face each other in Portugal in the very last round of this group stage. This match is probably going to decide which team will win this group.
Germany is the second team with a hundred percent score. They won their fifth match in this qualification with 4-1 against Azerbaijan. Northern Ireland, Czech Republic and Azerbijan are playing for the second spot in this group behind Germany. Northern Ireland is leading this with 10 points, followed by Czech Republic (8 points) and Azerbaijan (7points).
This is an very exciting group at the moment. Two teams are both on 11 points. Both Serbia and Republic or Ireland have 3 victories and 2 draws. Wales and Austria share a third place with 7 points. Wales thanks to four draws and 1 victory, while Austria has two victories and one draw.
