Liverpool versus Tottenham Hotspur

Match of the week: Liverpool versus Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool versus Tottenham Hotspur is my match of this week. Both teams started this season with the goal to win the Premier League. At this moment they are fighting to stay in the top 4. Liverpool’s recent terrible form makes this a very interesting match. Are they able to recover or will they go further down on the table?

Liverpool versus Tottenham Hotspur line-ups

Liverpool
Simon Mignolet, Nathaniel Clyne, Joel Matip, Lucas Leiva, James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane.

Tottenham Hotspur
Hugo Lloris, Kyle Walker, Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Ben Davies, Moussa Dembele, Victor Wanyama, Christian Eriksen, Heung-Min Son, Dele Alli, Harry Kane.

I already told you guys this match could go both ways. Liverpool haven’t won a single match in 2017, but they could use this match to turn the tides. All eleven Liverpool players showed from the first whistle that they are well aware of the importance of this match. The Reds immediately took control over the ball and dominated from the start. It was waiting for the first Liverpool in the first ten minutes. Eventually they needed 16 minutes to score the first goal. Wijnaldum placed Mane directly in front of Lloris with a brilliant ball. Mane netted this assist and scored the first goal of this match. Less than two minutes later it was Mane again who scored. Liverpool’s foot went off the gas pedal after this goal, which led to a 2-0 score at half-time.

Second half

The second half was quite disappointing for me. With two goals in the first half, I needed one more goal to nail my match of the week betting tip. I tipped over 2,5 goals for this match. When a team like Tottenham Hotspur is 2-0 behind at half-time, you can expect them to press forwards in the second half. Since they are second on the table and want to decrease their gap with Chelsea. The only thing I’ve seen from the Spurs in the second half is a lot of frustrations, because they couldn’t perform. I can’t even recall a single good chance for the Spurs in the second half. Even the substitutions don’t showed any ambition, therefore the Spurs didn’t deserved any points in this match. So, Liverpool versus Tottenham Hotspur ended in 2-0 thanks to a good first half hour by Liverpool.
