The Champions League group stage has come to an end. The Champions League group stage round 6 was the last chance for some teams to qualify for the round of 16 or Europa League. For the English teams Tottenham Hotspur was the only team who still had something to play for. In this post I will talk briefly about the results of all teams.

Champions League group stage round 6

Leicester City

Already qualified are group winner before this match. This gave Ranieri the opportunity to rest some players. Several regular substitutes made their appearance in the match against Porto. It was obvious that Fc Porto was the team with everything to play for. They knew winning this match would mean qualification for the next round. Porto outclassed Leicester City 2 and won with 5-0.

Tottenham Hotspur

They couldn’t reach the Champions League round of 16 anymore, but a result against CSKA Moscow was necessary to reach the Europa League. The Spurs missed some very big chances in the first half and it was Moscow who scored by their first opportunity in the 33th minute. This was a sign for the Spurs it was time to give some extra gas and Dele Alli scored the equaliser only five minutes later. Striker Harry Kane scored even before halftime the 2-1 for the Spurs. Knowing that they a draw was enough the Spurs had the confidence for the second half. An own goal by Akinfeev decided the score on 3-1.

The only thing Arsenal played for was the first spot in the group. Both PSG and Arsenal had 11 points before this match. PSG had the better mutual result so they were on the top spot. Arsenal did what they needed to do and it was Lucas Perez with a hat trick for the Gunners. A goal by Alex Iwobi and 1 by Doumbia set the score at 1-4 for Arsenal.

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola took this match to give some other players time to play because they were already qualified. This chances didn’t do Man City any good. It was Roberts who scored the 0-1 for Celtic after only four minutes. Kelechi Ihaenacho scored the equaliser only 4 minutes later. This was the last goal of the match.
