Top 3 best Premier League duo’s

A week ago I was writing a story about Arsenal for my work. During this work I came across the Invincibles and their striker duo Bergkamp and Henry. While working on this story I thought about other famous duo’s in the Premier League. That moment was the start of this article. In this post I’m going to discuss my personal top 3 best Premier League duo’s.

Top 3 best Premier League duo’s

This is my personal favourite top 3. I’m born in 1985 and started to follow football in the early 90’s. All these duo’s are players I’ve seen play together for many teams.

3. Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez

The most recent of all duo’s in the combination between Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez. 2013-2014 was the last season both played together at Anfield and this was an amazing season by both players. Suarez missed the first five matches of this season due to a suspension. Sturridge won the first three matches by scoring the only goal of the match three times in a row. When Suarez returned Liverpool started playing like a title candidate. Suarez scored 31 goals and won several personal prices that year. Sturridge scored 21 goals. Unfortunately for this duo they lost sight on the title two weeks before the end of the season.

2. Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp

This is a completely different duo then Suarez/Sturridge. Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp were always a joy to watch. The Kings of Highbury led their team to an unbeaten Championship. Henry was the instinctive, pacy predator to the playmaking genius of Bergkamp. Together they scored over 200 goals in six years at the club. I still watch movies of this duo on youtube every once in a while. Who can’t enjoy watching Bergkamp score this amazing goal against Newcastle United?

1. Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole

This former Manchester United duo is not as spectacular to watch as Bergkamp/Henry, but it’s still my personal favourite striker duo in the Premier League history. Cole and Yorke were the striker duo when Manchester United won the Champions League in 1999. I was 14 at the time and started following foreign teams. Manchester United was my first favourite team outside the Netherlands and that was because of the combination Yorke/Cole with David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. Yorke and Cole won the treble in their first combined season at Old Trafford and they scored 53 goals together.

Bergkamp/Henry was by far the most fun to watch, but I’ve selected Yorke/Cole as my favourite Premier League duo because they was the reason I started following the Premier League. Is your favourite duo in this top 3 best Premier League duo’s or do you have another duo?
